What is the next step of Conscious Evolution?
The old way of talking about Conscious Evolution is that Unconscious Evolution is evolution by chance and Conscious Evolution is evolution by choice. Said differently, Conscious Evolution means that evolution awakens to itself through us.
That’s a great beginning, but it’s just a first step. We need to move from Conscious Evolution 1.0 to Conscious Evolution 2.0. We have to take the next step in order to evolve the source code of culture and consciousness, which is the evolution of love.
The notion that evolution only becomes conscious through human beings is a narcissistic human expression. If one knows anything about molecular biology, complexity theory, chaos theory, the early laws of physics and mathematical structures in the first nanoseconds of the Big Bang, one knows that this is self-evidently not true.
Evolution generated mitosis and meiosis. Evolution generated the chlorophyll molecule. All the supercomputers, exponentially multiplied, that we have today couldn’t generate the chlorophyll molecule. The notion that that happened by a non‑intelligent, unconscious evolution is absurd. That’s not an intelligent possibility.
It’s very clear that there’s an interior intelligence and consciousness in evolution itself.
Conscious Evolution doesn’t mean that evolution awakens to itself through humanity. Conscious Evolution is the opposite. Rather Conscious Evolution means: humanity awakens to itself as the next incarnation of Conscious Evolution.
Human beings awaken and we realize that: we don’t just live in the Intimate Universe, but the Intimate Universe lives in us. We realize that evolution is not just a force out there. Actually the entire history of evolution – from muons to hadrons to leptons, protons, neutrons, atoms, complex molecules, macromolecules cells, multicellular organisms – quite literally lives in us.
It’s not that evolution is awakening, evolution was always awake. Humanity is awakening to the realization that we are Conscious Evolution. “We are the universe telling its story”. But not only are we telling the story, we are the story of the Universe itself.
Reality is not simply a fact, Reality is a story. Reality is not an ordinary story, Reality is a love story. Reality’s not an ordinary love story. Reality is an Evolutionary Love story, an Outrageous Love story. Like every story, that Outrageous Love story has direction and it has plotlines. The plotlines of the evolutionary story are towards ever-greater creativity, ever-greater love, ever-greater uniqueness, ever-greater complexity. Evolution is the movement towards ever‑greater mutuality, recognition, union and embrace. Evolution is the evolution of intimacy itself. Reality is a love story. And that is the only reason we can call something evil. It is only evil because it is a failure of intimacy.
We live in an Amorous Kosmos, and the Amorous Kosmos lives in us. We live in a CosmoErotic Universe, the CosmoErotic Universe lives in us. We awaken from homo sapien – Separate Self that is not part of the whole – to the realization that the whole lives in us. This is the awakening to Homo amor.

This is the next step of Conscious Evolution. It’s the awakening to the truth that Reality is a love story and that my personal, unique love story – my deepest heart’s desires – are chapter and verse in "The Universe: A Love Story."
Wherever you look, you realize that the Universe is a love story.
